Pay Range: $110,000 – $150,000 annually

Duties:

  • Oversees Surety book of business and grows department revenue. 
  • Develops and executes a marketing plan to bring new surety business into the Company. 
  • Underwrites new and renewal business to a profitable bottom line. 
  • Researches and implements new products. 
  • Maintains good relations with carriers to foster strong ties. 
  • Plans, proposes, develops and implements programs and policies that will promote the effective and efficient implementation of the Company’s strategic plan, goals and objectives. 
  • Provides input on division objectives, direct priorities and establishes new policies and procedures. 
  • Resolves disputes in a diplomatic manner while maintaining the high standards expected. 
  • Provides interpretation and rulings on policy for staff and ensures both the principle and the detail of the policy is administered. 
  • Develops, monitors the operational budget of the department. 
  • Holds staff meetings with key personnel to consider operational plans, priorities, status of projects and related matters. 
  • Makes decisions on hiring, discipline and promotion of employees, authorizes leave and overtime and completed performance reviews. 
  • Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with business officials, vendors, clients and customers to foster strong ties. 
  • Develops and supports policies and procedures relating to internal operations. 
  • Monitor workload/backlog. Recommend and implement problem resolution. 
  • Develop work flow processes to address issues and provide training to implement process. 
  • Directs and participates in the recruitment and training of new employees. 
  • Makes decisions on the hiring, disciplining and promoting of employees, authorizes leave and overtime and completes performance reviews. 
  • Initiates new clients according to agency’s guidelines. 
  • Secures complete information and works with Account Managers to prepare appropriate applications. 
  • Prepares insurance marketing plans and coordinates marketing efforts with Account Managers for all surety accounts with various carriers. Effectively negotiates premiums, policy terms and conditions on behalf of clients. 
  • Works with Account Manager to prepare proposals for clients. 
  • Handles phone requests from clients and insurance carriers. 
  • Develops, pursues and achieves approved individual Atlas-related goals as defined in personal business plan. 
  • Submits required reports in a timely manner. 
  • Maintains client files and makes client contacts as needed. 
  • Remains up-to-date on rates, forms and coverage changes through bulletins and circulars from insurance carriers through the utilization of online resources. 
  • Assists other team members as needed to meet agency, team, and individual goals; be a team player. 
  • Assists in solving customer’s problems. 
  • Effectively understands marketplace and changing market conditions. Keeps abreast of trends and techniques to maintain a competitive status. 
  • Adheres to and complies with established agency procedures. 
  • Solicits account renewals on behalf of the agency. 
  • Updates renewal information and maintains underwriting information.
  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws.   Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required; college degree preferred.
  • Minimum 10 years related experience and/or training.
  • Supervisory and managerial experience required.
  • Equivalent combination of education, training or related work experience will be considered.   
  • Property and Casualty Producer License required.
  • Valid Hawaii Driver’s License and use of own vehicle required.
  • Complete continuing education requirements as mandated by State.
  • Participate in seminars and classes for knowledge and professional development.
